2016 Presidential Election

The 2016 Presidential Election was marked by, among other things, particularly vicious political discourse. Teachers across the country struggled to stay true to their desire to teach their students to engage in politics respectfully while simultaneously staying nonpartisan.

As described by Teaching Tolerance, the impact of Donald Trump's often mean-spirited and even bigoted attacks, in particular, reverberated in classrooms across the countries. Many teachers described feeling that instances of bullying and hate speech increased during the presidential campaign.
