Past to Present Summer Institute
Past to Present: Teaching the History & Legacies of Enslavement and Facilitating Classroom Conversations on Complex Topics
This free, week-long summer institute established a robust learning community and space to share among educational professionals grades K-12 nationwide. Participants delved into curricular materials designed for teaching the history of enslavement. Through critical discussions, they addressed the challenges of navigating and facilitating complex conversations related to this history and its enduring legacies across diverse perspectives.
The Institute was co-led by the Democratic Knowledge Project and Educational Ethics, two initiatives based at Harvard University, at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA in July, 2024. The institute was supported by the Harvard and Legacy of Slavery Initiative.
